WHAT IS A SUBLUXATION?
A vertebral subluxation is an abnormal movement or alignment of your spine, which causes pressure on a nerve or your entire nervous system. In 10-15% of cases this may cause pain, but most vertebral subluxations are “silent”. Some subluxations are caused by a specific accident or fall. Most are caused by bad posture. But many are also caused by emotional stress or trauma which “stores itself” in your nervous system.
Although people may visit a chiropractor with headaches, back pains or similar complaints, Chiropractic does not actually treat any injury or illness. Chiropractors specialise in finding and reducing subluxation, reducing stress on your nervous system and restoring health to your body. This means that we look at your whole body, irrespective of where any pains might be, and recommend care according to how you are FUNCTIONING rather than just how you are FEELING.
People often think that injuries that happened a long time ago are not relevant, but just the opposite is true. The longer ago you had an injury, the more your body will have adapted to that injury. The pain may have gone away a decade ago, but if the problem did not heal fully, then you will have learnt ways to avoid putting stress on that old injury. If that is the case, then you will not be functioning well, even if you feel OK!
Many of us have had subluxations since childhood, from falls or accidents which have been forgotten long ago.
Our job is to identify problems which you may not have known about, and get you back to functioning at your best.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
An adjustment is the tool we use to reduce vertebral subluxations. It takes a minimum of 5 years of full-time University study to understand and make an adjustment.
Firstly the Chiropractor needs to know precisely what is wrong, in what direction, and by how much. The adjustment is then a very specific, fast, gentle, and skilful movement of a vertebra. This restores normal movement or position to your spine, improving your posture and relieving nervous stress.
This may be done by hand, with tools, or with special mechanisms built into the tables. An adjustment is very different to a manipulation, even though they are often confused. The adjustment is fast and gentle, and it does not normally hurt- in fact most people find it a blissful experience.
The adjustment is unique to Chiropractors, and only properly qualified Chiropractors are able to adjust. Glenn has had postgraduate training in a number of different techniques, which he uses selectively to ensure that care best fits not only you as a person, but also your stage of progress.
Most adults receive some combination of diversified and Gonstead techniques, which are highly safe, fast, and efficient techniques that require extensive training. People needing deeper structural or “spinal curve” correction receive a specific protocol of care known as CBP (Chiropractic Biophysics).
Babies & Infants
Benefit from low-force or “tonal” adjustments – very gentle pressure to release tension and improve alignment. We may use Cranial adjustments – where the bones of the skull are gently released so they can move and grow more freely.
Are generally treated using a combination of SOT (Sacro-occipital technique) and Webster techniques.
Surgery or Osteoporosis?
Patients who have had invasive surgery or severe osteoporosis can be safely adjusted using Activator, Impulse, or even the Arthrostim adjusting instruments.
Choosing a chiropractor with extensive experience means that you get the care that you need, so that you can get back to feeling and being your best.
This approach produces amazing results, with 99% of our clients reporting unexpected improvements in their health which they never considered linked to their spine. When your nervous system is free, your body’s natural ability to heal is unleashed. And it can be very powerful.
